Trial begins for Norman man accused of killing 2-year-old girl

3/2/2017 - Norman -- Opening statements have begun in the first degree murder trial of Tyler Jay Young, who is accused of killing his two-year-old stepdaughter.

Prosecutors claim that Young, 25, fatally injured Elizabeth Wess in Aug. of 2015 after she was left in Young's care while Wess' mother - Jessica Berry - was at work.

Young allegedly called Berry at work and claimed Wess slipped on the bathtub, was incoherent and he was calling 911.

Investigators claim that Young has given several conflicting accounts of what happened to Wess. Prosecutors claim that none of Young's version of events match the injuries the child sustained.

The trial is expected to continue through Monday.
